Labour Day message from Honourable (Barrister) Aliyu Wakili Boya, Member representing Fufore/Song Federal Constitution at the National Assembly, and Chairman, House Committee on Police Institutions.
Today, we stand together to celebrate May Day - a powerful symbol of unity, resilience, and the enduring spirit of workers everywhere.
This day reminds us of the hard-fought battles that secured rights we now take for granted: the 8-hour workday, fair wages, safer working conditions, and the right to be heard through collective action.
It is not just a holiday - it is a tribute to the hands and hearts that build our nations, power our economies, and shape our futures.
Yet even today, many workers continue to face challenges - low pay, job insecurity, and unsafe environments.
May Day is a time to raise our voices, demand justice, and push for progress.
Let us use this day not only to honor the past, but to build a better future for every worker in Nigeria.
Across Nigeria, workers have joint their counterparts in many countries in commemorating the May Day 2025 celebration with match pass, rallies and other gatherings - a significant event where various labor unions and their members have assembled to celebrate the day.
In Adamawa State, May Day serves as a reminder of the ongoing struggles and achievements of the labor movement, highlighting the importance of workers' rights and social justice which holds significant importance for workers worldwide.
The theme for this year’s May Day is “Reclaiming the Civic Space in the Midst of Economic Hardship” which reflects the ongoing challenges faced by Nigerian workers, including rising living costs, inflation, and delays in implementing the new ₦70,000 minimum wage in some states.
This underscores the importance of safeguarding democratic rights and ensuring that workers have a voice in shaping policies that affect their livelihoods.
Thanks
I sincere remain yours
